About
An almanac for the world’s most famous nutrition graphic
foodpyramid.app is an independent educational reference about food pyramids and national dietary guides: what the current U.S. guidance actually says, how American food advice has changed since 1894, and how the rest of the world draws the same idea.
It exists because most writing about the food pyramid is either nostalgia, marketing, or diet-culture noise. When the United States flipped its pyramid upside down in January 2026, the gap became obvious: there was no single place that explained the new graphic carefully, showed the disagreement among scientists honestly, and put the whole thing in historical and international context. This is that place.
Editorial standards
- Primary sources first. Claims about official guidance cite the guidance itself (realfood.gov, dietaryguidelines.gov, FAO registries, national health agencies), not summaries of summaries.
- Guidance ≠ consensus. Where official advice and published scientific critique diverge — as they do on the 2026 pyramid — we present both, labeled. Look for the Official guidance and Critique tags.
- Dated and reviewed. Every page carries a “last reviewed” date. Guidance pages are re-checked when source documents change.
- No miracle claims. No food on this site will ever “boost,” “detox,” or “melt” anything.
What this site will never do
- Give personalized medical, dietetic or weight-loss advice — see the disclaimer. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian for that.
- Sell or promote supplements, diet programs or “sponsored science.”
- Track you. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no ad-tech identifiers — see privacy. Quiz scores live in your own browser and nowhere else.
- Require an account for anything.
